Art History March Madness

Help determine the most influential artist of the 20th century

This crash course in modern and contemporary art history, modeled after college basketball's tournament, asks you to decide the most influential artist of the twentieth century, presented by artist Robert Jackson Harrington.

Held at the Jones Center at The Contemporary Austin on March 18th & 25th, we discussed and voted to advance your favorite artists through rounds of elimination and help determine the champion in this tournament that playfully considers how art history is written and/or forgotten.

The most influential artist of the 20th century is:

Marcel Duchamp!

After two stressfull nights of conversation, arguments, concessions, and concensus, we narrowed the list of 20th century artists down to the 4 finalists- Louise Bourgeois, Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this tournamnet a success.
